The Cast

annatorv.jpg Anna Torv is an Australian born actress and graduate of Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art. Her previous work includes the role of Alex in the UK series Mistrisses and Nikki Martel on the Australian series The Secret Life of Us. Anna plays special agent Olivia Dunham on Fringe.

In Season 1 of Fringe we learned that Olivia took part in experiments conducted by William Bell and Walter Bishop when she was a young child.  Olivia seems to have special mental gifts like controlling objects with her mind as demonstrated in the episode, “Ability”.

joshua-jackson-f.jpg Joshua Jackson is a Canadian born actor who has been involved in television since age 11. Joshua’s larger roles include Charlie in The Mighty Ducks and Pacey Witter on Dawson’s Creek. On Fringe Jackson plays the role of Peter Bishop, the nomadic, brilliant, and high school drop out son of Dr. Walter Bishop.

In season 1 of Fringe we saw Peter’s estranged relationship with his father grow to a point of genuine love and respect. Peter still has mental scars and issues related to the way Walter used Peter in his experiments when Peter was a boy. In the Season 1 finale we learned that Walter’s original son from this dimension died at the age of 7 and that the adult Peter we know is likely from another dimension but does not realize it.

nobleshadow.jpg John Noble was born in Port Pirie, South Australia and has directed more than 80 plays. He may be best known for his role as Denethor in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. He also played the role of Prince Admatha in One Night With the King. Noble plays the role of the genius institutionalized scientist, Dr. Walter Bishop on Fringe

Season 1 of Fringe taught us that Walter Bishop is a very deep, complex, brilliant and disturbed man. He battles with the knowledge that his former experiments are now tied in to the loss of many lives and destruction. He often seems random and unfocused to others but we have learned that Walter has a very unique way of using songs and food to help him remember information.

blairbrown.jpg Blair Brown plays the role of Massive Dynamic CEO, Nina Sharp on Fringe. Blair is an American born actress and graduate of National Theatre School (Canada). Brown has had a long career with roles on ER, Law & Order: SVU, CSI: Miami, & Smallville. Her most notable role was that of Molly Dodd on The Day’s and Nights of Molly Dodd.

In Season 1 we learned that Nina carries many secrets and knows much more than she reveals. She works closely with William Bell, has secret and late night rendezvous with Philip Broyles, and seems to have known Peter Bishop since he was a boy. We also learned that William Bell used her prosthetic arm to house a power cell that is powerful enough to open portals to other dimensions.

lance-reddick.jpg Lance Reddick is a native of Baltimore, Maryland and graduate of Yale. He is an accomplished musician, singer and theatre actor. Lance has had numerous acting roles on Oz, CSI: Miami and Way of War. Lost fans will immediately recognize Lance as the mysterious character, Matthew Abbadon. Lance plays special agent Phillip Broyles on Fringe.

Philip Broyles is the very unemotional, demanding leader of the Fringe team. He rarely passes out compliments and drives his subordinates to dig deeper and produce results. This drive has given his current team a lot of success in stopping Fringe incidents and rounding rogue agents. He and Nina have a mysterious relationship that often finds them meeting in strange places.

jasikanicole.jpg Jasika Nicole studied voice, studio art, and theatre in North Carolina and is originally from Alabama. She is a talented artist. She has had a recurring role on Law & Order: Criminal Intent and played the role of Penny on The Mastersons of Manhattan. On Fringe she plays Astrid Farnsworth, assistant to agent Olivia Dunham.

We at The Fringe Podcast feel that Agent Astrid Farnsworth is the most underwritten character on Fringe. Astrid is a very sharp agent with knowledge of cryptology, computer systems and linguistics. Her primary function is to assist Walter in the lab and does not get out of the lab except on rare occasions.

kirkacevedo.jpg Kirk Acevedo was born in Brooklyn and raised in the Bronx. Acevedo graduated from State University of New York at Purchase. Kirk as had roles on The Black Donnellys, Cold Case, Numb3rs and Law & Order: Trial by Jury. He is most noted for his role as Miguel Alvarez on Oz. On Fringe he portrays special agent Charlie Francis.

In season 1 we spent a lot of time trying to figure out if Agent Charlie Francis is a good agent or a rogue agent. In fact, it is an issue that is still under debate. In the episode, “The Road Not Taken” we were introduced to Agent Charlie Francis in another dimension. Alternate dimension Charlie has a large scar on his cheek.
